Samsung Galaxy phones or any other mobile smartphone has it’s own unique serial number and model code. Infact the manufacturer of mobile assigns to each device a unique serial number, in which encoded all information about the product: model, production country, date of manufacture. The serial number is unique for each device from one manufacturer.

Similarly mobiles also have IMEI number. IMEI means International Mobile Equipment Identity which is a common standard for all mobile devices, assigned to the phone at the time of manufacture in the factory. It’s the unique number, which is broadcasting to the carrier to authorize phone in the network. Structure of the IMEI is the same for all phones regardless of manufacturer.

So why do you need to know all such minute information of your Samsung or any other mobile. Well, its important to know your mobile’s serial number, IMEI, Model code and other information which comes handy if your phone gets lost.

Therefore in case you have bought a new phone or still don’t know this information on your present mobile device then find out and note down the serial number of your device as quickly as possible. You will need this IMEI code to identify your mobile and block it in case it is stolen or lost.

The IMEI number is unique and used by a GSM network to identify valid devices and therefore can be used for stopping a stolen phone from accessing that network. So, if a mobile phone is stolen, the owner can call their network provider and instruct them to blacklist the phone using its IMEI number.

There are a few ways to find your device details. These details typical include:

  •  IMEI: An IMEI is an unique identifier that will be 15 digits long starting with 35
  •  Serial Number: The Serial number is made of letters and numbers starting with R
  •  Model Number: The model number will start with SM- or GT

As a first step swipe down on your Samsung mobile screen to access your Quick Settings and tap on the Settings cogwheel.

Now scroll down to the bottom and tap on About phone

  • On the Home Screen, tap on the Phone app
  • Head to your Keypad and dial *#06#
  • The screen displayed will show you the IMEI number of your current device as well as the Serial Number (S/N).

  • Simply Remove the back cover and battery in a non sealed Samsung phone
  • The Model Number, Serial Number and IMEI are printed on the sticker as it is shown in the image.

Note that all Samsung products will have the Model Number and Serial number on the device itself somewhere, usually it’s on the back closer to the bottom. Sometimes it’s hard to read because of the colour of the product, and the text can be small on phones, tablets and wearables. If it’s too hard to read on the product itself  check the box the device came in, as the Serial Number will be there too. In many countries  if you buy a phone or tablet that takes a SIM, it is required by law to put the IMEI on the sale receipt.
