Samsung Foldable Phone now to come in

Samsung Foldable Phones

You must have heard this news from quite some time but latest rumour is that Samsung plans to bring a phone with a foldable display to the market in January 2017. The phone will be called the Galaxy X  and Samsung had patented the idea of a smartphone that could be folded in half, with presumably a full touchscreen display on board.

According to sources it is known that Samsung has hidden a charging port in the middle of the phone which means that the phone can’t be used while charging, but hopefully there’s a port on the bottom too. Yet not sure what the benefits of such a design is, but a phone that can be folded could mean that Samsung can create larger displays that when folded will be compact and more mobile.

Foldable phones aren’t a new idea. There have been ideas for tri-fold smart phones, and companies like Sony and Sharp have been playing around with the technology too. Samsung does seem to be the company closest to taking the idea to market and its foldable-phone project, code named “Project Valley”, has been in the works for a while. The company even had a concept video a couple years ago, but whether people are really demanding in for a foldable phone is a different question.

According to a Chinese website  Samsung’s foldable smartphone is being tested with two different chipsets – Qualcomm Snapdragon 620 and Snapdragon 820. Also the handset will feature 3GB of RAM; come with expandable storage, and will come with an embedded battery.

It’s worth noting that a previous report had claimed that Samsung was testing the unannounced Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset ‘aggressively’. The test results were said to determine if the chipset would be featured in next year’s flagship models or not. Fingers yet crossed for Samsung to announce the launch date.
