HTC-made Nexus 9 includes 8.9-inch IPS LCD display with 1536 x 2048 pixels resolution and density of 288 pixels per inch, encased with Gorilla Glass 3 to provide extra scratch resistance. While Galaxy Tab has a smaller screen with 8.4-inch but a more vivid and richer visuals using Super AMOLED display, 1600 x 2560 pixels resolution and density of 359 ppi together with a proximity sensor, Finger Print sensor and Smart Pause. Both displays have multi-touch input.

Cameras

Both have 8 megapixel back lens. While Nexus has 1.6 megapixel front lens with f/2.4 aperture and main camera settings such as LED flash, BSI sensor, autofocus and touch-to-focus, while Galaxy Tab includes 2.1 megapixel front shutter and features ED, CMOS image sensor and HDR for the back camera.

Storage

Nexus is powered by 64-bit dual-core NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor which is paired with Kepler DX1 graphics and 2GB of RAM. It has a built-in storage capacity of 32GB but it’s not expandable. Galaxy Tab is on Octa-core 64-bit Samsung Exynos 5420 processor together with ARM Mali-T628 MP6 graphics and 3GB of RAM. The internal storage is 32GB but can be upgraded by the support of a micro-SD card.

Battery

Nexus has a large 6,700 mAh battery that can last up to 10 hours of maximized usage while Galaxy Tab contains 4900 mAh battery that also can be used 10 hours in a single charge. Nexus runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop while Galaxy Tab on Android 4.4 KitKat.

Design

Nexus measures 8.99 x 6.05 x 0.31 inches, weighs 15.38 ounces and comes in colors black, gold and white while Galaxy Tab’s dimensions are 8.38 x 4.94 x 0.26 inches and is way lighter with the weight of 10.37 ounces but only comes in dazzling white.

What the consumer feel

The Tab S offers great multitasking software, a solid build quality, and is slightly more portable but with cluttered software and a slightly lower battery capacity. The Nexus 9 offers a beautiful, simple software experience with a large battery and loud front-firing speakers. Choosing the Nexus 9 means you’ll need to deal with slightly less-quality hardware and not many extra tablet-friendly software features.
